Gradyent partnered up with Ennatuurlijk and Eneco to make a Digital Twin of the heating network. The Digital Twin creates a detailed and realistic physical view of the network that is updated constantly with smart sensor data, source data and forecasts. It finds the optimum balance between flow and temperature and thereby ensures that minimal energy is wasted, customers get the required amount of heat and the heat-pumps operate optimally.

Ennatuurlijk is a district heating company in the Netherlands with 62 district heating networks that deliver more than 5.300.000 GJ heat every year to 85.000 households. The mission of Ennatuurlijk is to speed up the transformation to local and sustainable energy in the Netherlands and they strive to be 100% carbon neutral by 2040. Two of their heat grids have been awarded; one the most innovative and the other one the most sustainable grid.  Watch the video here.

Eneco is the largest district heating company in the Netherlands and one of the largest Dutch energy companies. They have about 140.000 residential customers and 2.500 commercial customers to which they deliver district heating products on a daily basis. Eneco is moving away from gas as a source of heating, so they are finding other sources of heat.  Watch the video here.

David Berghuis, Senior Asset Manager at Ennatuurlijk Hengelo: “The nice thing about working with Gradyent is that you work together. We found the solutions of optimisations from the Digital Twin. We can then see if it fits within the limits of the network and I think that is working in a Team.”

Paolo Herdé, Manager Smart Grid & Innovation team at Eneco: “To be able to make growth possible we need to find new sources of heat and the challenge here is that these sources are often at a lower temperature. In trying to find solutions for this challenge we came across Gradyent. The great thing about their team is that they don’t only consist of data scientists who are able to process our data in an intelligent manner, but they also really understand the engineering end of our product.”
