Stadtwärme Kamp-Lintfort GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Stadtwerke Kamp-Lintfort GmbH, has entered into a strategic partnership with Gradyent to implement a real-time Digital Twin of its district heating network. The collaboration marks another consistent step toward climate-neutral heat supply.

The network delivers around 102 GWh of heat per year across roughly 55 km of pipes. At this size, it is a cornerstone of local heat supply and offers great potential for efficiency gains.

"By expanding the network, we are creating a reliable, climate-friendly and price-stable heat supply for our citizens. Alongside building new pipes to connect streets not yet served by district heating, optimizing the existing network is an essential prerequisite for a successful heat transition. Digitalizing our processes is of particular importance for the future."
Daniel Cannistra, Managing Director at Stadtwärme Kamp-Lintfort GmbH

A real-time Digital Twin at the core

At the center of the collaboration is a Digital Twin of the district heating network. The model uses real-time operational, weather and anonymized consumption data to simulate, analyze and optimize how the network runs. The goal is to reduce heat losses on the way from Asdonkshof to households and to make operations more efficient overall.

Making the most of existing infrastructure

The Digital Twin lays the foundation for gradually moving the network to lower temperatures, making losses visible and minimizing them in a targeted way, without putting security of supply at risk.

"It is about using the existing infrastructure of our district heating network intelligently. With the Digital Twin, we are laying the foundation to gradually move our network to lower temperatures, make losses visible and minimize them in a targeted way, without putting security of supply at risk."

Jörg Buschmann, Authorized Officer and Technical Director at Stadtwärme Kamp-Lintfort GmbH

A signal for the regional energy transition

"Stadtwerke Kamp-Lintfort shows how energy utilities can apply innovation in a pragmatic, focused way. Together, we are now taking the next step toward data-based, transparent operation of the district heating network. The collaboration shows how digitalization and climate protection can work together in practice."

Alexander Schultz, Business Development Lead at Gradyent
